Why I Do Not Want Miss Gay Activities During Fiesta Celebrations

ARCHBISHOP’S TEACHING

From the Office of Readings today, April 19, 2012, I excerpt this from a sermon by Saint Gaudentius of Brescia, bishop on The inheritance of the new Covenant: “On the night Christ was delivered up to be crucified he left us this gift as a pledge of his abiding presence. … It was the Lord’s will that his gifts should remain with us, and that we should constantly be sanctified according to the pattern of his own passion. … Therefore let us all, priests and people alike, be faithful to this everlasting memorial of our redemption.”

Disciplina Aecani (Discipline of the Secret) is a term used to express the custom in the earliest ages of the Church to protect the Holy Eucharist from profanation by pagans.

The origin of the custom must be looked for in the recorded words of Christ: “Give not that which holy to dogs; neither cast your pearls before swine; lest perhaps they trample them under their feet, and turning upon you, they tear you” (Matthew 7,6) (The Catholic Encyclopedia).

It was because of the Holy Eucharist, the central act of the Christian religion, that the so called discipline of the sacred mystery was devised where outsiders were excluded, that the First Christians, taught by the Apostles, based their life and established their lifestyle, for which they were persecuted.

At the time of St. Peter, the First Pope, divorce was common, but the teaching of the apostles forbade it; open sexuality was more or less encouraged by the authorities, and the teaching of the Apostles insisted that it belonged solely in marriage. Infanticide was widespread, and the teaching of the Apostles condemned it. The state declared all gods were more or less true, and the teaching of the Apostles said that there was but One who might be worshiped. The emperor claimed divine honors, but the teaching of the Apostles refused to give them. All this because these actions were unfit for those who celebrated the discipline of the mystery, the Eucharist.

It was all forbidden in order that the Christians be worthy to receive the Eucharist; and for this they were persecuted and some were put to death. It should be noted that, after an initial public phase following its birth, the Church celebrated the Eucharist underground, in the catacombs.

Pope St. Zepherinus, one century later (199-217) renewed the discipline of the Church toward adultery and immorality, avarice and other sins. Pope St. Callixtus, his successor (217-222) pursued the discipline of the first Christians prohibiting those who committed adultery and sins of the flesh to receive the sacraments but allowing them to return to the Sacraments after due penance.

All anti-life activities like abortion, stem-cell research, physician-assisted suicide, and same-sex marriage make us unworthy to receive the Eucharist; a gay-life style and “Miss Gay” activities are just part of this larger picture.

Catholics must recover their heritage, the affirmation of life. It is only in this way that we can honestly stand before God and pray to him, that we can worthily celebrate the Eucharist.

Hence, the policy of denying its celebration in our community where the so-called Miss Gay contests or similar such activities are held as part of the community fiesta celebrations.

Those who don’t accept this are either too dense or just won’t understand because they have been misled by anti-life forces.
