In Memory of Rev. Fr. Illuminado “Lumen” Rojo

In the year 1950, on the 2nd day of May, this man was born in Sulangan, Bantayan, Cebu. His parents were Francisca Gipanao (deceased) and Jovino Rojo (deceased). For his early formal education, he was sent to Sulangan Elemetary School where he completed his primary level in 1964 and proceeded to St. Paul Academy, Bantayan, Cebu where he obtained his secondary diploma in 1968. He entered in San Carlos Minor and Major Seminary, Mabolo Cebu where he had spent his philosophical studies for years and obtained his degree in philosophy in the 1973. He, then, was sent to Pontifical Central Seminary, UST, Manila, for his theological Studies “Bachelor in Sacred Theology” and he graduated as “Cum Laude” in 1977 and he was ordained on the 25th day of March in 1977. He completed his Masters Degree in Theological Studies in the University of California, USA in 1991.

  2. St. Michael, Tangub & Immaculate Conception Parish, Ozamiz City from 1979-1982
  3. Santo Niño Parish, Clarin from 1982-1988.
  4. Chaplain at San Juan Valley Gen. Hospital, Stockton, California,USA and he became a founder and a Chaplain of the Filipino Pastoral Ministry, from 1991-1995
  5. St. Matthew Parish, Aloran from 1995-2001.
  6. San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish, Ozamiz from 2001-2007.
  7. San Nicholas Parish, Plaridel from 2007-2013.
  8. Holy Cross Parish, Talairon from 2013- June 28, 2014.
  9. Special Assignment:

    1. Spiritual director at St. Mary Seminary, Ozamiz from 1986-1987.
    2. Director of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Migrants and Itinerant People, Archdiocese of Ozamiz Unit from 2001-2006
    3. Director of the Archdiocesan Bible Apostolate from 2001- 2007.
    4. Regional Director of Paul VI Biblical Center for Mindanao., from 2005 to 2014
    5. On June 28, 2014, Fr. Lumen Rojo went back to Our Creator. His body was brought in San Lorenzo Parish, Ozamiz City on June 2-4, 2014 just to gave the Parishioners a chance to bid goodbye and to offer prayers to Fr. Lumen. His body was brought back to Bantayan, Cebu where in He will be buried.
